After the IDF published this morning the investigation into the death of the late David Yehuda Yitzchak during Operation Bayit VaGan in Jenin, the IDF also took a number of measures against officers in the Egoz unit who were involved in the tragic incident.

The commander of the platoon present at the event received a command-level comment. The team commander will conclude his assignment. Another team commander who was discharged will not be assigned to command the team in the reserves for a limited period. Afterward, his continuation will be evaluated, and the team sergeant will not serve in a command role.

"The IDF force thought it was a terrorist and fired"

As mentioned, David, Z"L, fell during an operation to neutralize terrorism in the Jenin refugee camp, on the night of July 4th, 2023, the 15th of Tammuz 5783. He was mistakenly fired upon and killed by our forces due to incorrect identification. The shooting took place as the forces were exiting the refugee camp and during exchanges of fire between the forces and armed individuals.

According to the investigation published today, a unit that identified a suspicious figure and suspicious movements in one of the buildings fired towards it, resulting in the tragic death of David Yehuda Yitzhak, Z"L, due to mistaken identification. The IDF noted that the investigation findings revealed discrepancies in assessing the locations of the forces during the exit from the refugee camp.
