In a statement to the New York Post, the 94-year-old Wartski recounted, “Adolf Hitler invaded Poland when I was 9 years old. He murdered my parents and most of my family. I know more about Hitler than Kamala will ever know in a thousand lifetimes. For her to accuse President Trump of being like Hitler is the worst thing I have ever heard in my 75 years living in the United States. Harris owes my parents and everyone else who was murdered by Hitler an apology for perpetuating this lie.”
According to channel 7 news reports, Wartski believes that Jews should support Donald Trump, describing him as a “mensch,” a Yiddish term for a person of good character. He stated, “I believe that President Trump will be good for Israel because everything he has done has been in its favor. He has never double-crossed anyone and has always stood firmly with the Jewish people and the state of Israel.”
Trump's running mate, J.D. Vance, expressed gratitude for meeting Wartski. “It’s difficult to fathom the courage and strength demonstrated by Jerry and so many others who suffered through the horrors of the Holocaust. I’m incredibly thankful to have met him and heard his story.”
Harris's original comments were directed at her opponent, stating, "He admires dictators. The American people deserve a president who encourages healthy debate, works across the aisle, and maintains certain standards about how we think about the role and responsibility of leadership, especially without comparing oneself to Hitler in an admiring way."
