Forecast: Far-right wins Austrian parliamentary election, defeating conservatives

While center-right and center-left parties crater, more niche and extreme parties appear to thrive in the latest Austrian parliamentary election.

A 5 PM (Austria time) forecast for the Austrian parliamentary elections today (Sunday) show the far-right Freedom Party of Austria winning a plurality of seats in the Austrian parliament, defeating the conservative Austrian People's Party, 29-26%.

According to the Europe Elects account on X, this is the first time the far-right party has won a national election outright, albeit with a plurality, while the center-right Austrian People's Party registered its third worst result - with the Social Democrats registering their worst result ever.

Meanwhile, Austria's liberal party, the NEOS, received its best result ever with 9% while the Greens dropped to 8.8% - their worst result this century.
