A 31-year-old Iranian woman, Arezoo Badri, was shot and left paraplegic by police after allegedly violating Iran's hijab laws, according to the BBC.

In late July, Badri was approached by police in Noor, northern Iran, who attempted to pull her over and confiscate her car for not properly covering her hair earlier. When she did not comply, the officers fired at her, hitting her in the lungs and spine.

The incident has resulted in Badri being paralyzed from the waist down. Medical professionals have indicated it will take several months to determine if the paralysis will be permanent, the BBC reported.
