The Irish High Court ruled today that Rabbi Jonathan Abraham, who is currently detained for allegedly performing illegal circumcisions on non-Jewish children, must be provided with kosher food while in prison.

The rabbi, who has been held at Cloverhill Prison in Dublin, claimed that his religious rights were being violated as he was denied appropriate food.

Rabbi Abraham, 47, from Golders Green, was arrested following a police raid on a property where he was scheduled to perform a circumcision last week. During a High Court hearing on Saturday, his legal team argued that the lack of kosher food constituted a breach of his human rights.

In response to the court's decision, Chief Rabbi Yoni Wieder expressed frustration that the issue of kosher food had to be resolved through legal action. “It is very disappointing that it’s taken so long to resolve the issue of kosher food, and that a case had to be taken to the High Court before a resolution was obtained,” Rabbi Wieder told the Jewish Chronicle.

The court's ruling mandates that Cloverhill Prison must now ensure Rabbi Abraham receives food that complies with his dietary requirements, as per his religious observances.
