Jewish Insider: "We as senators were misled about the status of the warrants" - Congress prepares to retaliate against the ICC

Jewish Insider reports a growing effort in Congress to retaliate against the ICC for filing for warrants against Netanyahu and Gallant - with little agreement on what that should be.

Jewish Insider reports that Members of Congress and Senators are looking into ways to penalize the ICC over its prosecutor filing for warrants against Netanyahu and Gallant for alleged war crimes.

In particular, Republican legislators are seeking to advance a bill imposing sanctions on ICC officials and associates seeking to investigate or arrest Americans or those allied with the United States.

While Secretary of State Blinken has committed to working with Congress to come up with a response to the ICC, Democratic leaders have been quiet on whether they support sanctions against the court, despite harshly criticizing the ICC's efforts to prosecute Israeli leaders.

Some Senators feel that the ICC deceived them in pushing for warrants before a planned official visit to Israel meant to discuss issues of international law relevant to the war, a sentiment senior Israeli jurists feel as well. A source told Jewish Insider that "we as senators were misled about the status of the warrants," as alleged by Republicans such as Lindsey Graham.
