Rebuke to Congresswoman: "Called for the Destruction of Israel"

The American House of Representatives approved a motion to formally reprimand Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, following her statements about the war in Gaza. Tlaib was accused of "promoting false narratives" and it was also determined that she "called for the destruction of the State of Israel."

The American House of Representatives last night (Tuesday) approved a proposal for an official reprimand against Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, following her statements about the war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip. 234 members of the House of Representatives voted in favor of the reprimand, against 188 opponents and 7 abstentions.

Tlaib was accused of "promoting false narratives" after she claimed that US President Joe Biden "supports the genocide of the Palestinians" following his support for Israel and the attack against Hamas in Gaza. In addition, it was determined that Tlaib "called for the destruction of the State of Israel" because of her constant use of the phrase "Palestine will be free from the river to the sea" and her claim in the video she published that it is a "call of aspiration for freedom, human rights and peaceful coexistence, and not for death, destruction or hatred."

During the debate, Tlaib strongly attacked the proposal to reprimand her, and repeated her call for a ceasefire in Gaza. "There is no difference between the shouts of the Israeli and Palestinian children," she claimed. "My criticism has always been against the Israeli government, and not against the citizens. The calls for a ceasefire are increasing every day. You can try to silence me, but you cannot silence their voices."
