Barnea, "We need to wait"

Mossad chief David Barnea met in recent days with several families of hostages for an update on the progress of the negotiations for a deal. According to a report on Channel 12 News, despite the departure of the Israeli delegation to Doha, the families left with a heavy feeling after the conversation with the head of the Mossad, during which it was made clear to them that the chances of a deal seem low.

During the meeting with the head of the Mossad, a relative of a hostage asked him, "What is happening with the deal right now?" The head of the Mossad, Barnea, replied, "We have not yet received an official response from the mediators regarding either the Qatari or the Egyptian proposal, so it is advisable to wait."

Barnea provided an overview of the ongoing negotiations and told the families, "Currently, the chances of a small deal are low, Hamas insists on a ceasefire."

Throughout the war there have been multiple proposals put forward and even accepted by Israel for a hostage deal yet Hamas, who have already made it very clear they have no interest in making a deal, have consistently rejected such deals. Since October 7 their consistent refusal and pushing off of negotiations has meant only more suffering for the families of the hostages, and off course the hostages themselves.
