WSJ: Sinwar believed the United States would force Israeli concessions

The Wall Street Journal released a deep-dive piece today (Monday) on the life of Yahya Sinwar, during his time as leader of Hamas in Gaza and during and after October 7.

Based on interviews with multiple sources, Sinwar revealed himself to be utterly inflexible on the question of a hostage deal with Israel, believing increasing tensions within the Israeli body politic - including Netanyahu's own coalition - and the United States' concern for Gazan civilians would force Israel to make concessions without Hamas having to.

The article also revealed that the IDF discovered Sinwar's DNA in the bedroom area lying behind the tunnel where the six hostages, later murdered, were held captive.

The current decision by Hamas leadership to establish a collective council of five to replace him as the IDF closed in was also on Sinwar's recommendation.
