IDF Chief of Staff opposes ceasefire with Hezbollah: "We've waited years for this opportunity"

The odds of Israel agreeing to an American brokered temporary ceasefire with Hezbollah continue to decline with the IDF Chief of Staff expressing open opposition.

IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi expressed his opposition today (Thursday) to a proposed American brokered temporary cease fire with Hezbollah, saying that "we have waited years for this opportunity."

In his statement, Halevi said that "we need to continue attacking Hezbollah, we have waited for years for this opportunity. We are working all the time to secure achievements, to eliminate more senior leaders, to foil weapons smuggling, to degrade Hezbollah's fire capabilities and to attack it all throughout Lebanon."

Reuters reports that Israel has indeed rejected the current form of an American-brokered temporary ceasefire, though Secretary of State Blinken reiterated its importance.
