Arab media, Haniyeh assassination, Hamas leader

Hamas Official: Successor to Haniyeh will continue in his footsteps – 'We will not cease after the assassination'

In a press conference following the assassination, Khalil al-Hayya, who is considered Ismail Haniyeh’s deputy, declared that the Hamas leader was in a public location, not a concealed one, and remarked, "His assassination is not an intelligence victory."

According to Arab media reports he further warned that "Israel understands this will not go unanswered, and the Zionist entity will face severe consequences for this act," and added, "We will not engage in negotiations while bloodshed continues."

During the press conference in Tehran, al-Hayya emphasized that despite Haniyeh's death, Hamas will continue its operations. He affirmed, "We have a clear strategy, and even if ten of our leaders are killed, we will not deviate from it." Al-Hayya reiterated that Haniyeh was not in a hidden location—thus, his assassination does not signify an intelligence success.

Al-Hayya also stated, "Israel aimed to kill him from the onset of the conflict, and it is aware that this will provoke retaliation. The 'Zionist entity' will pay a steep price for this crime."

He added, "The successor to Haniyeh will follow the same course. We are awaiting a comprehensive investigation from the Iranian authorities regarding the assassination. We will not agree to negotiate under the cloud of ongoing violence. Netanyahu is the one who set new conditions, delaying the possibility of an agreement."

Ismail Haniyeh was reportedly killed along with his bodyguard in the apartment where they were staying in Tehran. Haniyeh had travelled to Iran to attend the inauguration of the new president. Hamas issued a statement this morning in Tehran about Haniyeh’s death, blaming Israel, which has remained silent. Iranian reports indicate that Haniyeh was killed by a precision missile fired directly into his bedroom around 2 AM. Al-Mayadeen, citing an Iranian source, reported that the missile was launched from outside Iran, specifically from another country.
