Defense Minister Gallant met with White House Middle East Coordinator Brett McGurk today (Wednesday) to discuss the war with Hamas and the hostage deal.

In addition to discussing what they consider an important opportunity in the recent progress in the hostage talks, Gallant stressed the importance of finding a solution to prevent Hamas being able to rearm through weapons smuggling tunnels on the Egyptian border.

Gallant signaled his readiness to see Rafah crossing reopen, but insisted that Hamas must not be allowed to regain a foothold there.
