One of the great mysteries regarding October 7th is why Hezbollah did not join Hamas and launch a surprise attack in the north as well.

Prof. Amatsia Baram, a lecturer at the University of Haifa, claims that Sinwar was afraid of involving Hezbollah because he knew that Nasrallah would prevent Sinwar from attacking at the last minute.

In a column he published on the Maariv website, Baram wrote: "The attack on October 7 was initiated by Yihya Sinwar without coordination with Beirut and Tehran. Khamenei and Nasrallah funded, trained and armed him, but that morning they were no less surprised than Israel."

Baram refers to Sinwar's decision: "Sinwar decided to attack without coordination because he knew they would forbid him to do so. First, because Israel is still too strong, and it could eliminate Hamas and Hezbollah. Second, as long as Israel does not attack the Iranian nuclear facilities, Tehran does not want to endanger Hezbollah."
