One person was killed and another severely injured in a terror attack at a shopping center in Karmiel, a city in northern Israel, earlier today (Wednesday).

The victim has been identified as Sergeant Aleksandr Iakiminskyi, 19, from Nahariya, a driver in the 71st Battalion, 188th Brigade, according to an IDF announcement. The other individual injured in the stabbing attack is a soldier from the same battalion and brigade, as reported by JPost.

Eyewitnesses reported that the terrorist stabbed one of the young men, inflicting severe injuries. The second soldier, who was armed, managed to disarm the assailant and shoot him, but not before being stabbed himself, as reported by Walla.

The deputy director of the Karmiel municipality security department, who arrived at the scene with his team, described the situation as "a very difficult scene. People are very upset. We secured the area to allow for the treatment of the wounded and to calm the crowd, and we remain on site to assist in whatever is needed by the security forces."
