Israel-Gaza War

Where are the Palestinian civilians located?

New IDF assessments provide a clearer picture of the location and condition of Palestinian non-combatants, piercing the fog of war.

New IDF assessments state that the vast majority of Palestinian non-combatants - 1.9 million of 2.3 million Gazans in total - are located in the humanitarian zone in the al-Mawasi area, according to Times of Israel reporter Emanuel Fabian.

In addition, a few hundreds of thousands of Gazans still remain in northern Gaza.

Only around 20,000 remain in the Rafah area after the IDF began a concerted effort to evacuate them in May.

The United States and many European countries had previously opposed a Rafah operation on the grounds that the IDF would not be able to move the then-1.4 million residents and refugees residing there.
