Hassan Nasrallah to finally get a funeral after being assassinated months ago

Following the ceasefire agreement: Hezbollah plans public and political funeral for Hassan Nasrallah

Hezbollah is preparing for a significant "public and political" funeral for its former Secretary-General, Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike on the southern suburbs of Beirut in late September. The announcement was made by a party official yesterday, shortly after the ceasefire agreement between Hezbollah and Israel came into effect.

According to reports, Hezbollah have begun preparations for their former leader, Hassan Nasrallah's funeral. Following his assassination, Israel supposedly refused to allow for burial during the ongoing war, though this theory has not been officially confirmed and there are conflicting reports. Now, with a ceasefire deal in place, plans have gone ahead to make for a publicised funeral for the late terror leader.

Mahmoud Qomati, deputy head of Hezbollah’s Political Council, explained that the funeral had been delayed to allow for preparations for an “honourable farewell” that would reflect Nasrallah’s legacy and martyrdom, as well as that of his comrade, Sayyed Hashem Safieddine, who was also killed in the same Israeli strike.

Qomati stated, “We are preparing for a funeral that will be exceptional, powerful, public, official, and political.”

Meanwhile, Hezbollah member of parliament Ibrahim Al-Moussawi told Al-Mayadeen that preparations are complete, and the appropriate date and time for the event would be announced soon. He added, “You will witness a majestic and grand procession by the people of this nation, honouring the martyr and leader, Hassan Nasrallah.”

Nasrallah was killed on September 27th in Israeli airstrikes that targeted Hezbollah’s central command in the southern Beirut suburbs. The attack involved approximately 85 bunker-busting bombs, each weighing one tonne.

Just days later, Hashem Safieddine was also assassinated in a similar strike in the same area.

The ceasefire agreement between Hezbollah and Israel, which came into effect at 4am local time yesterday, ended the hostilities that had begun on October 8, 2023, and escalated significantly since September 2024.
