The Supreme Court’s judicial panel discussing appeals tomorrow (Monday) against the government’s decision to not enforce the Defense Service Law against yeshivah students will be broadcast live.

The appeal, filed by the Movement for Quality in Government, was joined by some 400 former senior defense officials, including former Chiefs of Staff Moshe Yaalon and Dan Chalutz, former Mossad Director Tamir Pardo, former Shin Bet Director Carmi Gilon, former Police Chiefs Dudi Cohen, Moshe Karadi, and Asaf Chefetz, and former Generals Udi Adam, Ori Or, Eitan Ben Eliyahu, Orna Barbivai, Yair Golan, Amram Mitzvna, Eyal Ben Reuven, Eitan Dangut, and Dan Harel.

Last week, the Attorney General announced that if the law formally enshrining the yeshivah student’s exemption status is not passed, the army will have to draft yeshivah students starting April. Furthermore, Kann 11 reporter revealed that a more serious sanction will be imposed – Charedi yeshivahs will no longer be budgeted, because the “their Torah is their craft” status has expired and they are no longer entitled to funding from the state.
