The head of the Hamas department at IDF Intelligence’s research division is the officer who asked to resign due to the intelligence failure leading to the October 7 massacre, according to Kann 11 News military correspondent Roi Sharon.
According to the report, the officer, who holds the rank of Major, told his superiors yesterday that “I take responsibility for my role in the failure of October 7 and wish to step down from my position.”
In a statement he sent to his commanders, he wrote that he understood that he needed to step down since the war started and waited for the fighting to slow down to do so. Now, four months later, he feels the time has come.
The IDF Spokesperson said that “the officer turned to his commanders a few weeks ago and asked to end his role due to personal circumstances. The officer stepped down from his position in recent days and left for a period of leave without pay, at the end of which he will examine his continued future in the IDF.”
