The Supreme Court decided today (Wednesday) to reject the petition against the Israel Police according to which anti-war protest demonstrators will not be able to take place in Umm al-Fahm and Sakhnin.

According to the police statement, in the hearing that took place on the submitted petition, the Israel Police claimed that these protests could develop into a real risk to the public's peace and security, when at this time, the police's efforts are all subject to dealing with the complex security situation and it is unable to allocate the manpower required to deal with this threat.

"Under the special circumstances, the petition should be rejected"

It was also reported that the police made it clear that there is no disputing the supreme importance of freedom of expression even in times of war. The police also emphasized that there is no guideline that comprehensively prohibits the existence of protests in the Arab sector and that each request is examined on its merits according to its unique circumstances and according to the time and place in which it is requested.

As mentioned, the Supreme Court accepted the police's claims and determined that under the special circumstances that exist at this time, in particular in the northern region, the petition should be dismissed.
