IDF spokesperson, Brigadier General Daniel Hagari, delivered a briefing today (Sunday) on the ground incursion into the Gaza Strip over the past day and reported that the military has expanded the scope of its operations.
Gradually expand the ground activity
At the beginning of his remarks, Hagai referred to the operations in the Gaza Strip, stating, "During the night, we expanded the entry of IDF forces into the Strip, and they joined the forces already engaged in combat. We are advancing in the stages of the war according to the plan."
The IDF spokesman noted that the ground activity is complex and includes risks for the IDF forces as well. He said that the army is looking to gradually expand the scope of ground activity in general combat options. "We will do everything in our power from the air, sea and land in order to ensure the security of our forces and achieve the goals of the war."
Hagai also addressed the northern region and mentioned that during the night, several targets and infrastructure of Hezbollah were attacked, and a warning was issued to Nasrallah: "Every terrorist cell that reaches the border area will be eliminated." The IDF spokesperson also noted that 311 families of fallen IDF soldiers have been informed of the loss of their loved ones since the beginning of the conflict.
Hagari on the warning letters sent to Netanyahu and Gallant: a thorough investigation will be conducted
The storm caused by the Prime Minister's tweet, in which he accused the heads of the security establishment of not warning him about Hamas's intentions, did not skip the IDF spokesperson. On his part, Hagari chose not to respond to the question and claimed that the army is focused on the war.
When asked about the letters sent to Netanyahu and Gallant by senior IDF officials warning of a rift within the people and whether there was a specific warning regarding Hamas, Hagai responded, "We in the IDF and also in the General Security Service will conduct a thorough and truthful investigation ourselves, and we will present everything to the public because we rely on the public's trust."
At the end of his statement, he mentioned that this morning, a new recruitment cycle for observation units took place. "They have a significant role in safeguarding the security of the citizens of the State of Israel. In the coming month, we intend to continue the recruitment as planned."
