Following reports of IDF attacks deep in Lebanon, the army announced today (Monday) that it attacked Hezbollah's air defense systems in the Beqaa Valley in eastern Lebanon.
The attack took place in response to the downing of an IDF UAV earlier in the day. The Al Jazeera network reported that "from a preliminary assessment, there are two dead and three wounded in the two airstrikes in the area."
Earlier today, Hezbollah fired a surface-to-air missile into the skies of the Lower Galilee. The David's Sling air defense system intercepted the missile in the Jezreel Valley area about 50 kilometers from the border. There were no casualties in the incident.
The IDF stated: "Air Defenses intercepted a surface-to-air missile launched at a remotely manned aircraft of the Air Force that was operating in the skies of Lebanon using the "David's Sling" system. A warning of rocket and missile fire was activated in the Alon Tavor power station area following the launch. There were no casualties.
After a short time, another missile was launched at the aircraft, this time hitting its target. As a result, the UAV fell in Lebanese territory. The IDF will continue to defend the State of Israel and continue operating in the skies above Lebanon against the Hezbollah terrorist organization."
