Nearly half of the hate crimes reported in New York State last year were directed at Jews, according to a new report released by State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli on Thursday.
The report highlights that 44% of all hate crimes recorded in 2023 were antisemitic, marking a significant rise. Since 2018, there has been an alarming 89% increase in antisemitic hate crimes, with 477 cases reported last year alone.
DiNapoli emphasized the urgent need for action, stating, "The fight against hate crimes demands that community, faith, and political leaders take an active stance in condemning hate, bolstering efforts in reporting, prevention, and protection, and enhancing educational initiatives."
