With its lively atmosphere and legendary pastrami on the menu since 1954,the 2nd Ave Deli is a beloved New York institution. Co-owner Jeremy Lebewohl recently participated in a conversation with the Ruderman Family Foundation.
A large Israeli flag dominates the entrance of the 2nd Ave Deli. "After October 7, it just felt like the right thing to do to show all of New York that we here at 2nd Ave Deli, and hopefully many others in the city, stand with Israel." This act hasn't come without challenges. "We had a swastika put up outside of our store not too long after October 7," Lebewohl shared. "Additionally, we've received some bad reviews that are clearly not from our regular customers."
Despite these incidents, loyal patrons continue their support. As lunchtime crowds surge, the atmosphere at 2nd Ave Deli brims with resilience and unity.
