U.S. officials say "cross-border movements" from Israel to Lebanon may have begun, ABC reported Sunday. They argue that these movements, if they have begun, are "small-scale" at present.
According to them, this is a ground incursion of forces into Lebanon, with the goal of destroying the positions of Hezbollah. Two U.S. officials claim that there are currently "small-scale" movements right on the border, or about to begin. They assessed that Israel has not yet decided whether to launch a ground operation in Lebanon, but Israeli forces are prepared for any scenario.
The sources added that if a ground operation takes place, it will probably be of limited scope. Israel is preparing for the return of residents of the north to their homes. The sources believe that as a result, Israel has decided that it is not enough to take out terrorists leaders.
On Friday evening, Hassan Nasrallah was assassinated when the IDF attacked Hezbollah headquarters in Dahiya, Beirut, from the air. The headquarters was in a bunker beneath the building, and more than 80 bombs were fired at the building – until it was destroyed. U.S. officials reportedly received "a few minutes' notice" before his assassination, according to officials.
