In the most serious blow yet to the Hezbollah terrorist organization, the IDF eliminated Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah yesterday (Friday) in a targeted strike in the Dahiah suburb of Beirut.

The IDF Spokesperson provided a briefing on the strike, watch here:

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made the decision to assassinate the secretary general of Hezbollah after landing in New York, where he arrived on the occasion of his speech at the UN General Assembly, despite reservations raised during the discussions on the issue by Defense Minister Yoav Galant.

Gallant laid two caveats during the discussions: First, he demanded a "seminar" to teach all cabinet members the consequences of this event. When he was unsuccessful, he made another reservation when he asked that the move be coordinated with the Americans.

The intelligence that there is a very small window of opportunity in which Hassan Nasrallah can be assassinated was first received earlier this week. This came up for discussion last Monday for the first time, with the relevant parties still not making a decision after brainstorming.

On Wednesday, the cabinet already held a specific discussion on the matter, with Netanyahu making the decision to leave New York as part of the move, and in fact making the final decision only by plane.

The prime minister had begun to understand that in order to create a "new Middle East" with the Saudis, as he said in his speech last Friday at the United Nations, the head of the terror axis north of Israel, the secretary general of the Hezbollah terrorist organization Nasrallah, must be demoted, in what will almost certainly change the equation in the north.

The IDF has thus eliminated almost the whole of Hezbollah's senior and operational commanders within a few months of each other and continues to strike senior targets wherever they can be found.

Ali Karaki, commander of Hezbollah's southern front who survived a previous IDF assassination attempt, has also been killed.
