Blame is Solely on Hamas

Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu: The Blood is Only on the Hands of Hamas and its Supporters

We must not burden the fighters with even a tiny particle of guilt. The blame is solely on the brutal kidnappers from Hamas and all their supporters.

Our hearts go out to the families of the abductees. Our hearts are torn by the thought of what they are going through. And surely our hearts are with those who were accidentally killed by our soldiers. In such a painful hour, it is very important to remember that even when there is a terrible incident where our forces accidentally fire on our soldiers or abductees we must not blame them. These are soldiers who shot because they thought they were terrorists.

It is important to remember that according to Halacha, the soldiers who fired have no responsibility for this mistake. According to the Halacha, they are not allowed to take the blame, and certainly we are not allowed to blame them for even one drop of responsibility. The Halacha says that there are cases where a doctor intended to heal the patient and a malfunction occurred under his hands through no fault of his - the doctor must not repent when the patient dies. If he repents for this, he will not be able to continue healing other people in the future.

If a soldier or officer or commander thinks he is guilty and beats himself up for it, his hands will be tied and he will not be able to make life-saving decisions in the future. It is simply not allowed for anyone to blame them, and they are also not allowed to blame themselves.

There are people from within the army whose job it is to analyze the incident and give orders so that such an incident does not happen again in the future. Our duty is to be endlessly grateful to these soldiers who have been giving their lives for us for over two months now. And even more, we should be grateful to the women and their parents for more than two months of concern and prayer for them.

We must not burden them with even a tiny particle of guilt. The blame is solely on the brutal kidnappers from Hamas and all their supporters from universities like Harvard, MIT and Pennsylvania (Penn), from countries like Turkey, from the Palestinian Authority and from everywhere else. It is important to tell both Hamas and their supporters that nothing good awaits them in the upper world, only hell. There are not two Gods, there is only one and he hates and despises the actions of Hamas.

King David says that God also hates all their lovers:

"וְרָשָׁע וְאֹהֵב חָמָס שָׂנְאָה נַפְשׁוֹ"

("And the wicked and the lover of Hamas hates his soul")

Both for the wicked of the Hamas and for their supporters, David prays and says

"יַמְטֵר עַל רְשָׁעִים פַּחִים אֵשׁ וְגָפְרִית וְרוּחַ זִלְעָפוֹת מְנָת כּוֹסָם"

("He will rain down on the wicked fire and brimstone and the spirit of rage, a portion of a sorcerer").

God loves only kindness and justice, not injustice and cruelty:

"כִּי צַדִּיק ה' צְדָקוֹת אָהֵב. יָשָׁר יֶחֱזוּ פָנֵימוֹ"

("Because the Lord is righteous, he loves righteousness. Righteousness shall be found in his presence"). (Psalms 11)
