Five days after fighting started in the south, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is now meeting (Wednesday) with State Camp party chairman Benny Gantz to discuss forming a national emergency government.

This comes in the wake of a meeting of the coalition leaders yesterday, in which complete agreement was registered in support of an emergency national government. At the meeting, the coalition leaders authorized Prime Minister Netanyahu to work for form such a government.

However, it was also reported that National Security Minister Ben Gvir was creating difficulties in forming a unity government with the State Camp party. According to reporting by Dafna Liel, sources in the Prime Minister's Office say that Ben Gvir opposes forming any security forum beyond the existing security cabinet. According to them, he only supports the establishment of an emergency government, despite his view of Gantz and Eisenkot, who are responsible for today's failures due to their being former heads of the defense establishment.

Following the reports, heads of local government in the south published a letter calling on Prime Minister Netanyahu to form a national emergency government together with opposition members.

Their letter stated that "We, the heads of (local) authorities in the Negev who deal with rocket fire on our towns, terrorist infiltration, many murdered and killed, missing, captured and wounded, call on you in this difficult hour for the people and the State of Israel to immediately establish a national emergency government."
