The Ministry of Education responded today (Thursday) to the arrest of the director of the School of the Arts in Tel Aviv after it was revealed that he had illicit relationships with minor students and was suspected of committing indecent acts.
The ministry said: "As you know, information was recently brought to the ministry's attention regarding a school principal having a sexual relationship with a student in the education system. The issue is currently under police investigation."
"However, regardless of the criminal investigation, for the position of the ministry, it makes no difference whether the events that allegedly happened are criminal or not, the ministry takes a serious view of this conduct that is unbecoming of any educator."
"Professionals in the office accompany and will accompany the school staff, students, and parents, and will follow the findings of the investigation and the recommendations of the police. Immediately after the conclusion of the investigation, the office will act as requested in accordance with the vision of the office and its values."
Suspected of committing indecent acts
The director of the School of the Arts in Tel Aviv, Udi Klein, who admitted to having sex with minors and is suspected of committing obscene acts, was as mentioned brought in for questioning by the Israel Police.
Klein, the 46-year-old who ran the School of the Arts in Tel Aviv in recent years and took an active part in the protest against the legal reform over the past few months, announced at the beginning of the week after the cases were revealed, that he had taken a self-initiated leave from his position. With the disclosure of the cases, the Israel Police opened an investigation under the crime-fighting unit of the Yarkon area.
Klein was summoned for questioning under the suspicion of committing indecent acts with minors, at the end of his questioning, he was released to house arrest under restrictive conditions.
