Rothman: "Today the government does not have a legal advisor"

During a conference at the home of a candidate for the Regional Council Leadership, Rothman said: "The rift started when the court assumed the ability to invalidate laws in a political and blatant manner"

Member of Knesset Simcha Rothman, chairman of the Constitution Committee, hosted an open discussion event last night with over 200 residents of Kadumim in Ozel Vatik's Sukkah, a candidate for the head of the council. During the event, Rothman said: "The culprit for the social rift is the court. The rift started when the court assumed the ability to invalidate laws in a political and blatant way."

Regarding the dismissal of the legal advisor to the government, Rothman replied, "As of today, the Israeli government does not have a legal advisor. There is someone who holds this title, it is not clear what she does, but legal advice in practice - there simply isn't any."

Rothman referred to the issue of appointing the judges and said that the very fact that it is clear to everyone that President Hayut did not vote for any of the coalition parties is a problem. "The judges must judge according to the law and not according to their personal opinion. The situation today is very far from that. There are people I appointed judges, even though I knew their political position was different from mine and I pushed to appoint them because the law governs them and not according to their agenda.

A good judge is a judge that I have to believe will not use his position as an agent of chaos. In the end, how the Israeli space should be, is not a legal question for 15 people to decide for us. And today the whole public understands that. Those who want those 15 people to decide for all of us, the only reason that motivates them is that everyone sitting there is 'just not Bibi'. That's the motive.
