After the storm following the new logo of the National Library, from which the colors of the national flag that characterized the previous logo were absent, the library issues a message in which it writes that it has been decided to return to the previous logo of the library.
A post that appeared on the library's Facebook account last week read: "Meet our new logo! The National Library, the story of all of us." However, in the new logo the words 'The National Library' appear in Hebrew and nothing else, in English and Arabic it says 'The National Library of Israel'. Also absent from the new logo were the colors of the national flag that characterized the previous logo, which angered many surfers.
Following the storm, the National Library said: "The change of the new symbol (logo) of the National Library sparked a public discussion - important and wide-ranging. This discussion testifies to the emotional and strong connection between the public, in all its shades, and the National Library.
In the last few days, we held discussions in which we considered the various opinions and reasons that were voiced, and it was decided that the library will return to its previous symbol.'
This (Sunday) morning, Education Minister Yoav Kisch sent a letter to the library's management in which he demanded: "Change the decision, the new symbol is disconnected from the identity of the Jewish people."
In the letter he sent, the minister wrote: "Last week, with the launch of the National Library's new website in preparation for the library's move to its new location, it became clear to me and the public that the library's symbol has also been changed.
Section three of the National Library Law states the library's goals: collecting, preserving, nurturing, and bequeathing treasures of Knowledge, heritage, and culture in general, and in relation to the Land of Israel, the State of Israel, and the Jewish people in particular."
Sources at the library said that the decision had nothing to do with Kisch's letter. There were discussions on the issue during the last few days, and the decision was made in light of the reactions of the general public.
