The tension in the South continues: Following a security assessment conducted last night, it was decided that the Erez Crossing will remain closed for the entry of Palestinian workers into Israel today (Thursday). This marks a full week of closure in the Gaza Strip, which began at the beginning of the Jewish year.

According to the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories, the decision was made in accordance with the instructions of the Minister of Defense and the Chief of Staff. It was also clarified that the reopening of the crossing will occur based on the situation assessment.

As mentioned, in the past week, there have been renewed disturbances by Palestinians along the border, including burning tires, planting explosive devices, and in one case, firing towards IDF positions. Last Wednesday, explosives planted by militants detonated during their planting, resulting in the deaths of six militants. During the holiday, a militant fired at an IDF position with a firearm, similar to the incident in which Amit Ben-Yigal was killed two years ago. In response, the decision was made to close the crossings from the Gaza Strip into Israel.
