During the road construction works on Hebron Road, near the Mar Elias Monastery in the Givat Hamatos area, two very old shells were discovered last night.

The commander of the Moriah station and the regional bomb disposal officer decided to handle the shells this morning, and preparations were made during the night in coordination with the municipality.

As a result, the Jerusalem Municipality clarifies that "the closure of the road section in the morning will be done in a way that minimally disrupts traffic, and the road will be opened as early as possible, around 07:00, under police guidance."

From the Israel Police, it was reported: "Following the discovery of two old shells during the light rail construction works in Jerusalem, Hebron Road in the section between Rosemary Street to Ma'aleh Darga Street is currently blocked for the purpose of handling the items by the Israel Police bomb squad. The driving public is requested to heed the instructions of the police at the roadblocks and to choose alternative routes in advance."
