The Food Stamps

It appears: the High Court of Justice will approve the outline of the food stamps

The Movement for the Quality of Government announced that the High Court of Justice is expected to approve the distribution of food stamps in the current outline. However, they claim that the court will demand that the distribution mechanism be amended for the next time, in order to not harm the rights of other populations

The judges of the High Court of Justice are expected to approve today (Wednesday) the current outline of the Ministry of Interior's distribution of food stamps, according to the Movement for the Quality of Government, which submitted the petition together with Hiddush (Hiddush – For Religious Freedom and Equality).

According to them: "The court decided to approve the decision of the Ministry of the Interior due to the shortness of time until the holidays. However, they claim that the judges are going to amend the distribution mechanism for the next time in order to make it equal."

The Movement for the Quality of Government: "The formulation of the criteria was conducted in a flawed procedure"

Attorney Ariel Barzilai, head of the economic division in the movement for the quality of government, said: "Our petition pointed to criteria for division that radically discriminate between the populations, infringe on the basic rights of Holocaust survivors, single mothers, and the most needy population and whose very formation was conducted in a flawed process. We congratulate the court for demanding that the government conduct itself in a more transparent and equitable manner in the future.

In the end, he said: "We will be on guard to make sure that the many deficiencies and prohibited discrimination in the current partition outline will not stand up in next year's partition outline, and we wish all the House of Israel a happy holiday and a happy New Year."

As published last week, the High Court of Justice decided to freeze the food stamps project and an interim order was issued against the move. The decision infuriated the ministers of Shas and The Torah Judaism parties. Minister Yitzchak Goldknopf said at the beginning of the cabinet meeting this week, that the decision will be annulled, according to him: "The court will understand that poor people need to be given food stamps".
