Two days after the deadly earthquake in Morocco, the Moroccan Ministry of the Interior informed today (Monday) that the number of people killed in the disaster has risen to 2,497 people, alongside another 2,476 who were injured. The rescue teams continue their efforts to find those trapped under the rubble in the Marrakesh area, but many estimate that the chances of finding more survivors are low at this stage.

At the same time, the authorities are working to increase aid to the thousands of injured and the many residents who lost their homes or property in the earthquake. Although many countries around the world - including Israel - have offered to send aid teams, so far the Moroccan government has only agreed to receive aid from 4 countries: Spain, Great Britain, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. It was also reported that the deliveries of supplies are delayed on the way to the wounded, because the roads to many villages are still blocked due to rockfalls.

As you remember, the earthquake hit the city of Marrakesh in the southwest of Morocco on the night between Friday and Saturday, when it was measured at a magnitude of 6.8 on the Richter scale. This is the strongest earthquake in the country since measurements began 120 years ago, when the strength of the earthquake surprised the region that normally does not suffer from strong earthquakes.
