The Israel Police announced that for the first time, a charge of using illegal weapons was filed thanks to the Knesset's legislative changes, on the subject of illegal weapons and violence in Arab society.

The North District Police announced that on August 28, 2023, North District police officers were dispatched to a fight that took place in the village of Manda. After dispersing the fight, the police began investigating the circumstances of the incident, from which it was suspected that a weapon was used during the fight by one of those involved.

In accordance with the legislative changes led by the Knesset as part of the war on crime in Arab society, and the tightening of the policy against the possession of illegal weapons that enacted the temporary order to combat illegal weapons, the police had more extensive investigative tools than before.

In accordance with the changes in the legislation, the police were allowed to immediately enter several houses in the scene and seize the recording devices of security cameras that filmed the area of the fight, and according to the documents that were caught on the cameras, the 59-year-old resident of the place was arrested on suspicion of shooting.

After the end of the investigation, an indictment was filed against the suspect and a request for detention until the end of the proceedings by the Haifa Prosecutor's Office, where the main evidence in the case are videos captured in the field by the police.

The North District Police stated: "The order of the hour 'to combat illegal weapons' joins the 'law to combat racketeering' which gives our police officers the opportunity to act effectively against the phenomena of violence, shooting and the collection of 'protection' fees throughout the north. The order of the hour allows us to obtain evidence and investigative materials before they are disappeared by the criminals and those who collaborate with them."
