Yesterday (Saturday), the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court extended by five days the detention of the two settlers who were arrested on suspicion of shooting after being attacked by Palestinians in an open area near the terrorist village of Burqa.
At the same time, neither the police nor the army arrested any Palestinians on suspicion of attacking the settlers. It should be noted that one of the suspects in the shooting and killing of the Palestinian is currently hospitalized at Shaare Zedek Medical Center and needed surgery on his head after being lynched by the Arab rioters.
The settlers claim: "Shooting in self-defense"
Let us recall that the incident occurred during the Sabbath when Arab rioters from the village of Burqa began to attack a Jewish shepherd who was tending his flock in an open area near the Arab village. The shepherd called for help, and his friends arrived to assist him against the violent attack. According to the settlers' claims, dozens of Arab rioters continued to attack them with clubs and stones. In response, the shepherd fired his weapon towards one of the rioters, resulting in his death.
The settlers claimed that it was a shot fired in self-defense following the lynching they endured. However, the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) and the police decided that it was a suspected murder and sent policemen to stand guard next to his hospital bed. As mentioned before, his detention, along with the detention of his friend who arrived at the scene, was extended for five days.
The IDF's version: "The force reached the wrong place"
A few hours after the initial announcement by the IDF spokesperson, which relied on "Palestinian reports and on-site testimonies," the IDF issued a clarification following claims by the settlers that the IDF arrived at the scene with a delay.
According to their claim: "Around 20:07, an initial Palestinian report about a clash in the area was received. IDF forces searched the reported area but did not find the clash as the location provided was incorrect."
"At 20:52 a report was received for the first time from a civil security officer about friction between a number of Palestinians and residents of the 'Oz Zion' settlement."
"At approximately 21:09, an exact location of the confrontation was received, and the IDF force arrived at 21:20 at the location of the incident, after a shot was fired."
Publication was allowed: One of the detainees is a former aide to a member of the Knesset
It should be noted that during the night, it was also permitted to publish that one of the suspects arrested on suspicion of involvement in the shooting is Elisha Yered, who was the spokesperson for Knesset member Limor Son Har Melech, from the Otzma Yehudit party. Yered is suspected of being involved in the incident and obstructing the investigation process.
