While voting on the law to reduce the clause of reasonability in the Knesset plenum, and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich's attempts to push for a compromise, the Otzma Yehudit party made their position clear: "The one who runs the State of Israel is the Israeli government. The legislation must be passed as it is and then we will move on."
The CEO of Religious Zionism, Yehuda Weld, reacts to Otzma Yehudit's opposition to a compromise on the law and stings Ben Gvir: "Unfortunately, even in these moments when the coalition is united to pass the reduction of the clause of reasonability, there are small parties who were not in the secret of the affairs leading the reform and are busy with false briefings mainly to promote themselves. They will eat salads, misguide and divide the people, we will continue to lead the reform of the justice system responsibly."
Attempts to compromise until the last minute
According to the reports, Smotrich is trying to formulate a postponement of the legislation on the appointment of judges for a period of more than six months, when Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and Education Minister Yoav Kish are also pushing to reach compromises. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu supports this and asked to see the reservations to see if it can be done, but on the other hand it was reported that ministers Yariv Levin, Itamar Ben Gvir and Shlomo Karai are strongly opposed.
In response to the softening attempts, the Otzma Yehudit party said that no compromise would be possible: "We do not have a mandate to make 'softening' of the legislation, which in fact has the same purpose: to sterilize it and make it devoid of any real influence.
