A compromise?

Herzog: "We are in a national emergency, this is the time for responsibility"

Beside the talks for a compromise, the president of the country, Yitzhak Herzog, called to politicians that "the citizens of Israel are thirsty for hope and expect responsibility and leadership. I call to act with courage, and achieve an understanding."

Just before the beginning of the Knesset voting on the law to reduce the probable cause, President Yitzhak Herzog referred to the negotiations regarding a compromise and called on the parties to work toward agreements.

"We are in a state of national emergency. This is the time for responsibility," Herzog said. "We are working around the clock, in every possible way, to find a solution. There is a possible infrastructure for understanding, but there are still gaps that require the various parties to show responsibility."

He also addressed the members of the political system: "The citizens of Israel are thirsty for hope and expect responsibility and leadership. During this lockdown, I call on the elected officials to act with courage, and to reach out with the goal of achieving understanding."

As reported last night, since Herzog's return to Israel, the president has worked to mediate between the parties and reach agreements regarding the legal reform. Last night he met with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu - who was hospitalized at Sheba Tel Hashomer Hospital - and later he also met with opposition leader Yair Lapid, the chairman of The Machane HaMamlachti Benny Gantz, and the chairman of the Histadrut Arnon Bar David.
