Today (Monday), Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced a period of interviewing candidates to replace Senator Marco Rubio, who is set to become President-elect Donald Trump's Secretary of State once he enters office.
In his statement posted on X, DeSantis said that "Florida deserves a Senator who will help President Trump deliver on his election mandate, be strong on immigration and border security, take on the entrenched bureaucracy and administrative state, reverse the nation’s fiscal decline, be animated by conservative principles, and has a proven record of results."
The Florida governor also said that they have received requests from multiple candidates, who will undergo preliminary vetting. More extensive interviews and vetting will be conducted over the next few weeks, with the aim of reaching a decision by January 20th, the day President Trump is inaugurated for a second and final term.
