President Joe Biden gave brief remarks today (Thursday) on the reelection of Donald Trump, assuring that there would be a peaceful and smooth transition of power, thanking election workers and the members of his staff, and encouraging Democrats to not lose heart in the face of their loss.
Biden also placed a heavy emphasis on "lowering the political temperature," saying that "You can't love your country only when you win, you can't love your neighbor only when you agree with him."
The outgoing President also said that he spoke with President-elect Trump over the phone and instructed his entire administration to work with his team to ensure a smooth transition of power.
After thanking election workers for ensuring a transparent and effective election, Biden turned to members of his own side to not lose heart at the loss, and that defeat can be overcome.
