On Saturday, Argentine police arrested seven individuals in a series of raids targeting an Islamic terrorist organization that was allegedly planning attacks on Jewish sites, including synagogues.

The operation followed a complaint from DAIA, Argentina’s Jewish political umbrella organization, which alerted authorities after a Jewish journalist in Mendoza received unspecified threats. DAIA stated that the group had been disseminating anti-Christian and anti-Jewish rhetoric through Telegram and WhatsApp and indicated potential connections to ISIS and the Taliban.

Local media in Mendoza reported that the threats against the journalist had surfaced on Facebook in 2023, though the journalist's name and specific threats were not disclosed. The investigation, dubbed “Salafist Brothers,” referenced the fundamentalist Sunni Islamic movement.

Argentina's Minister of Security, Patricia Bullrich, shared footage from the raids on social media. The raids occurred at private residences, the Cristo Redentor Border Crossing between Argentina and Chile, and Ezeiza International Airport in Buenos Aires, revealing a cache of weapons, including guns, knives, ammunition, and Islamic literature.
