In a dramatic incident over northeastern France, two Rafale fighter jets collided and crashed yesterday (Wednesday), sparking an urgent search and rescue operation.

The collision occurred as the jets were returning from a refueling mission in Germany. The crash site has been located near Colombey-les-Belles in northeastern France. French Armed Forces Minister Sébastien Lecornu confirmed on social media that one pilot was found safe and sound, while the search for the other two continues.

"We thank our armed forces as well as the gendarmes mobilized in the search and in securing the area," Lecornu stated.

According to French broadcaster BFM, the missing crew from the second aircraft are believed to be an instructor and a trainee. The Army of Air and Space, a branch of the French Armed Forces, reported that the Rafale fighters were on their way back from their mission when the collision occurred.

Local authorities are now appealing to the public for any information that might aid in the ongoing search efforts. The regional prefecture has urged anyone with potential leads to come forward.

As the situation develops, military and civilian resources continue to be deployed in the hopes of locating the missing crew members. Officials are still working to determine the cause of the collision.

The Rafale is a multi-role combat aircraft, serving as a key component of France's air defense and strategic operations. This incident marks a rare occurrence for the French Air Force, known for its rigorous safety standards and advanced training programs.
