Biden quits 2024 presidential race, endorses Harris for White House

The US president has issued a letter formally concluding his campaign, backing his vice president, Kamala Harris, to succeed him.

Joe Biden has opted to exit the 2024 presidential race, yielding to pressure from within the Democratic Party amid concerns over his health. Biden has thrown his support behind Kamala Harris for the Democratic nomination.

The 81-year-old cited the "best interest of my party and the country" as reasons for his decision to step down. He praised Vice President Harris as "an extraordinary partner" and formally endorsed her to become the party's nominee.

In a statement released today, Biden declared, "Today, I am offering my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be our party's nominee this year. Democrats — let's unite and defeat Trump. Let's make this happen."
