Following the defense minister's statement last night that Israel does not want to control Gaza, officials in the Biden administration now believe that Gallant is a necessary problem solver in the debate over how to end the war in the Strip, Washington Post reporter David Ignatius reported last night (Wednesday).

According to officials in the American administration, the Minister of Defense has taken a significant part in dialogue between the countries, this in light of the strained relationship between President Biden and Prime Minister Netanyahu.

Gallant said that the time has come for Israel to start building a Palestinian security force in Gaza that will be able to provide stability after the breakup of Hamas' political monopoly.

"The idea is simple," Gallant told Ignatius, adding, "We will not allow Hamas to control Gaza. We also do not want Israel to control it. What is the solution? Local Palestinian elements backed by international officials."
