US President Biden sent Israel's President Isaac Herzog a special letter on the occasion of Israel's 76th Independence Day, reiterating his commitment to Israel and its security, and calling for continued cooperation between the countries.

"Mr. President, on behalf of the people of the United States, I send my warmest wishes to you and the people of Israel on the 76th anniversary of the State of Israel," Biden wrote. "The United States is proud of our ongoing relationship with Israel. As the first country to recognize Israel as an independent country in 1948, our ties are founded by shared democratic values, shared interests, and a similar cultural affinity."

"The last year has been very painful because Israel suffered the worst attack in its history on October 7, 2023. But the people of Israel showed tremendous strength and resilience," he added.

"As I made clear after the Hamas attack - throughout my life I supported and was the only president to visit Israel during wartime - the United States' commitment to Israel's security is unwavering. It is critical that our countries work together to increase security and peace for Israel and the entire region. I expect our countries to continue to work together to create a brighter future for all our people.

"I congratulate the people of Israel on your Independence Day, and hope that the coming year will bring more peace and joy than suffering," Biden concluded. "Happy Independence Day!"
