World leaders reacted tonight (Sunday) to Iran's extensive attack against Israel, in which hundreds of drones and missiles were launched at Israeli terriroty. They condemned the attack, supported Israel's right to defend itself, and made it clear that they will take steps to protect Israel and prevent further aggression.
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak condemned the attack and affirmed Israel's right to defend itself. "The UK strongly condemns the Iranian regime's reckless attack against Israel. Tehran has proven once again that it intends to sow chaos in its own backyard. Britain will continue to stand up for the security of Israel and all our regional partners, including Jordan and Iraq. Alongside our allies, we are working urgently to stabilize the situation and prevent further attacks. No one wants to see more bloodshed."
German Chancellor Olaf Schulz blasted Iran's actions. "The attack on Israel that Iran launched tonight is irresponsible and unjustified. Iran risks igniting the region. We stand by Israel and will discuss the rest with our allies," he was quoted as saying.
Argentine President Javier Millay expressed solidarity with Israel. "We express...our unwavering commitment to the State of Israel in the face of the attacks by the Islamic Republic of Iran. Argentina recognizes the right of nation states to defend themselves, and firmly supports the State of Israel in defending its sovereignty, especially against regimes that promote terrorism and seek to destroy society. The State of Israel is the bastion of Western values in the Middle East, and Argentina will stand by it against those who seek its destruction."
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that, "We stand by Israel. The actions of the Iranian regime will further destabilize the region and make lasting peace more difficult. We support Israel's right to defend itself and its people."
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan announced that, "Japan is very concerned about this attack which will further exacerbate the current situation in the Middle East, and strongly condemns this escalation. Peace and stability in the Middle East region are extremely important to Japan, and we strongly call on the parties involved to calm the situation."
