The French information security agency ANSSI reported this evening (Monday) that a broad cyberattack was carried out against two French government servers.
Among the ministries hit was the Labor Ministry, which it reported as being entirely paralyzed. The servers of the French health funds were also hit. AFP reported that the government “reduced” access to the attacked sites, and is working to get everything running again as soon as possible.
Shortly afterward, the pro-Russian, Islamist hacker group Anonymous Sudan claimed responsibility for the attack, saying that it had targeted 17,000 servers and 300 websites affiliated with the French government.
“The damage will be highly extensive and the core of the government was hit,” the hackers claimed. “The French leadership knows very well what individuals and sites were hit.”
