Israel-Gaza War, Humanitarian Aid

US CENTCOM: U.S. Army Vessel (USAV) General Frank S. Besson en route to start building temporary pier for aid to Gazans

According to Reuters, the port will be able to supply up to 2 million meals a day to Gazan civilians escaping the war, and will not be secured ashore by US troops at any stage.

US Central Command announced today (Sunday) that the U.S. Army Vessel (USAV) General Frank S. Besson was heading to the Middle East to provide the initial equipment to begin building a temporary port along the Gaza coast.

The goal of the port will be to more efficiently provide Gazan civilians with humanitarian aid, as much truck-borne aid has been stolen by Hamas and airdropped aid is far from sufficient.

The US stated that although American sailors and soldiers would be assisting in building the port, no soldiers will be deployed ashore at any point, according to Reuters.

It remains unclear as to how this aid will be secured from Hamas or how it will be distributed so as to reach its destination.
