The Youngest in the World: Here is the New Prime Minister of France

French President Emmanuel Macron has appointed Education Minister Gabriel Attal as the new Prime Minister, replacing Élisabeth Borne, who resigned after two years. At 34, Attal becomes the youngest Prime Minister ever in France.

History in France: A day after the resignation of Élisabeth Borne from her post, French President Emmanuel Macron announced today (Tuesday) that he appointed Minister of Education Gabriel Attal as the country's new Prime Minister. The 34-year-old Attal will be the youngest prime minister in French history.

Attal grew up in Paris in a family of Jewish-Tunisian origin and began his political career in 2014 as the head of the opposition in the Saint Paul de Vence town council. He was first elected to the French Parliament in 2017, and a year later he was appointed as Deputy Minister of Education Jean-Michel Blanquer. He later served as Speaker of the Parliament, Minister of the Economy, and Minister of Education - where he made headlines when he promoted the ban on wearing the Muslim hijab in schools in France.

As mentioned, Attal will replace Élisabeth Borne, who announced her resignation yesterday after a two-year term. The move comes as part of Macron's attempt to form a new government ahead of the European Parliament elections to be held this June, against the backdrop of growing criticism of his performance in recent years and the strengthening of far-right parties in France.
