Senior Pentagon officials are pushing to attack with increasing aggression against the Houthi rebels in Yemen and the Iranian militias in the Middle East - this was reported this morning (Monday) in the "New York Times" newspaper. However, the report claims that US President Joe Biden is dissuading at this stage from a widespread attack.
According to the report, the US Ministry of Defense prepared detailed plans and marked targets for the attack - including missile and UAV depots in Yemen, as well as facilities where small boats are stored that are used by the Houthis to attack cargo ships in the Red Sea. Former senior officials in the US military claimed that such an attack is necessary in order to return the American deterrence, as happened in 2016 when the US attacked three facilities of the Houthis which resulted in the cessation of their activities.
On the other hand, others in the Pentagon expressed concern that widespread attacks would strengthen Iran and lead to the expansion of the war in the Middle East. "It is doubtful that such attacks will help," claimed Adam Clements, who previously served in the US Navy forces in Yemen. "The alliance of Iran and the Houthis benefits from having battles, so why should we produce more?"
As a reminder, last night it was reported that Britain decided to transfer the fighting against the Houthis to the territory of Yemen, and to carry out intense attacks against the organization in its territory. It is also claimed that other European and Western countries are considering participating in the wave of attacks, including the United States. According to diplomatic sources, Britain sent a direct message to senior officials of the Houthi organization in which they informed the organization that: "If you do not stop the attacks on commercial targets - you will face a military threat from the West."
The report came after the Houthis threatened to retaliate for the elimination of its terrorists by the United States during an attempt to take over a ship in the Red Sea. According to several publications, at least ten of the organization's terrorists were eliminated during the American response.
According to international reports, 4 boats of the terrorist organization approached a commercial ship in the Red Sea. US Navy helicopters were launched, circled above and told them to leave. The Houthis opened fire at the American helicopters which returned fire and killed them, 3 of the boats sank. The spokesperson of the organization announced during the press conference that: "The meaning of the American aggression is a declaration of war. Surprises in the coming hours"
